The GNCHR hosted a meeting of the ENNHRI Working Group on Asylum and Migration at its offices.

On 23 and 24 May 2023, the Greek National Commission for Human Rights, which chairs the Working Group on Asylum and Migration of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions, hosted at its offices representatives of its counterparts from Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Germany, Georgia, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Croatia, Kosovo, Cyprus, Latvia, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and the Czech Republic, to discuss, inter alia, the role of NHRIs in human rights issues arising from the use of new technologies and artificial intelligence systems in asylum procedures and migration-related fields.

New technologies and artificial intelligence systems are already implemented in several European states vis-à-vis third country nationals. However, this is a dynamic field that is not sufficiently regulated by legislation and is constantly evolving. NHRIs, such as the GNCHR, are primarily tasked with protecting human rights at a national level and have a special role in ensuring that the use of such systems is safe and beneficial to humans.

More information on the activities of the Working Group on Asylum and Migration can be found here.
