Dr. Maria Mousmouti is the Executive Director of the Centre for European Constitutional Law – Themistocles & Dimitris Tsatsos Foundation (CECL) and Associate Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies of the University of London, where she teaches legislative drafting. She holds a degree in law (University of Athens), a post-graduate degree in comparative social security law (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium) and a PhD in law and legislative studies (University of London).
She is a lawyer at the Athens Bar since 2000. She served as research associate to the Member of European Parliament Professor Dr. Dimitris Th. Tsatsos (2002-2004) and has been collaborating with the Centre for European Constitutional Law since 1999, as Project Manager (1999-2002), Director of International Projects (2002-2007) and Executive Director (2007-present). Since 2011, she is the project manager of the National Focal Point on Fundamental Rights that conducts research on fundamental rights in the framework of the Fundamental Rights Network (FRANET) established by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) in all EU member states.
Her research interests include legislative quality and effectiveness, legislative design, fundamental rights, equality and non discrimination and ways to mainstream gender, disability and diversity in legislation and public policies. Her monograph ‘Designing Effective Legislation’ was published in August 2019.
