GEORGE NIKOLOPOULOS

George P. Nikolopoulos is Deputy Ombudsman for Human Rights, Professor of Criminology at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Department of Sociology / Section of Criminology) and has also pursued a career as Attorney at Law at the Athens Bar Association. He has studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens (1982) and he holds an MSc in Criminological Studies from the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (1985) and a PhD in Criminology from the Faculty of Law / School of Criminology of the Catholic University of Louvain (1993). He is member of the Central Scientific Council for Prisons and was for six years the President of the Administrative Board of “Epanodos” - the Greek Official Centre for the Reintegration of Ex-Offenders, under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights (2010-2016). His most recent publications in Greek comprise “State, penal power and european integration. A criminological approach” (Kritiki, 2002), “The European Union as a criminal policy actor. The ‘Hague programme’ and its implementation” (Nomiki Bibliothiki, 2008), “«The interstate transfer of sentenced persons and their social reintegration in the ‘area of freedom, security and justice’» (Nomiki Bibliothiki, 2014), as well as many studies about the criminal policy and the protection of human rights in the European Union, the social reintegration of ex-offenders, the criminological approach of  literature, the migration question, the penal system, etc.
