NIKOS KIAOS

Born in 1943 in Edessa and raised in Naoussa. In 1957 he came to Athens. He graduated from Varvakeion High School. A Physicist, graduate of the University of Athens and holder of a Master Degree in Electronic Physics. In his student years, member of the Μanagement Board of the Students’ Association of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, member of the Management Committee of the Associations of Athens University (DESPA), Secretary General of "Bertrand Russell" Youth Association for the Nuclear Disarmament. Active member of the EDA Youth and Lambrakis Youth Organization.
During the dictatorship he was a member of the Organization "Rigas Fereos". He remained illegal for a year and after his arrest he was kept at Dionysos, Bouboulinas Averof Prisons, Korydallos, "Agios Pavlos" Prisoners' Hospital, until September 1972. After the Athens Polytechnic uprising, November 1973, a new arrest and, successively imprisonment at the General Police Security, Bogiati and Giaros, until 25/7/74.
From 1973 to 2016 journalist in “Athens News”, “Avgi”, on the Radio (First and Third Channel), the "Morning Eleftherotypia", the "Sunday Eleftherotypia", the “Mesimvrini”, the "Eleftherotypia", partner in the "Efimerida ton Sintakton".
President, vice president and member of the Management Board of ESIEA (Journalists' Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers) (1986-2001), secretary general and organizational secretary of POESY (Panhellenic Federation of Journalists' Unions) (1994-1995 and 1999), Chairman of the Single Journalists’ Organization for Supplementary Insurance and Care (EDOEAP) (2005-2009).

Guest lecturer at Panteion in the Division of Mass Media in 1999.

Retired since 2003.

Member of the ESR (Greek National Council for Radio and Television) since 2016.

Married to Frosso Dimakou. They have two children, Margarita and Thomas.
