The meeting of the Working Group on Artificial Intelligence of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI), organised by the Greek National Commission for Human Rights (GNCHR), concluded on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, in Athens, with the participation of representatives from 25 National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) from European countries.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and good practices among National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) regarding the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on human rights, as well as for strengthening relevant expertise at national and European levels. Through presentations and interactive discussions, participants examined the role of Data Protection Authorities in the context of the Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), the fundamental rights challenges arising from the use of AI in critical sectors, and opportunities to strengthen institutional cooperation.

In parallel, the findings of relevant research were presented, and the key challenges, priorities and actions in the field of AI in Europe were highlighted, with a view to developing common approaches and identifying future activities and thematic priorities for the Working Group.

The Working Group meeting took place within the framework of the project Advancing Human Rights in the Age of AI: NHRI Cooperation, Capacity Building and Policy Dialogue, co-funded by the European Union (Project SGA-CERV-2026-07) through the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI).

The GNCHR continued its activities to highlight the challenges that artificial intelligence poses for human rights. On Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the GNCHR organised an international conference on Human Rights and Artificial Intelligence, held at the Novus City Hotel in Athens.
