GNCHR participation in the 2nd Consultation Forum on the implementation of the AI Act in Greece organized by the Special Secretariat for Artificial Intelligence and Data Governance

The Greek National Commission for Human Rights (GNCHR), represented by Dr. Christos Tsevas, GNCHR Human Rights Advisor, participated in the 2nd Consultation Forum on the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 on Artificial Intelligence (AI Act) in Greece, which took place on 26 March 2026.

The event was organized by the Special Secretariat for Artificial Intelligence and Data Governance of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, in cooperation with Expertise France, within the framework of the project “Integrating AI Technologies in the Greek Public Administration”, funded by the European Union.

Representatives from various stakeholders took part in the 2nd Consultation Forum. Among other topics, the Forum presented the outcomes of the 1st Consultation Forum, in which GNCHR also participated in on July 2025, the EU simplification initiatives on AI (Digital Omnibus on AI), the main pillars of the draft law on the implementation of the AI Act, as well as proposals for the establishment of AI regulatory sandboxes in public administration. In the second part, presentations focused on the planned Guide for the use of Generative AI in the public sector, the new Data Governance Strategy and the National Open Data Portal, as well as the proposed AI Governance Scheme.

GNCHR actively contributed to the dialogue, highlighting key issues related to the protection of fundamental rights in the context of the implementation of Artificial Intelligence.

Since November 2024, the Ministry of Digital Governance has included the National Commission in the list of national authorities and bodies that enforce or supervise compliance with EU obligations to protect citizens’ fundamental rights, including the right to non-discriminatory treatment, when using high-risk AI systems.
