GNCHR Director Eva Tzavala participated in the 2026 Warsaw Human Dimension Conference, held in Warsaw from 5 to 15 October 2026, at the invitation of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), to present the outcomes of the practical cooperation between ODIHR and the Greek National Human Rights Institution in addressing racist violence and combating discrimination.

Ms Tzavala participated in the first Roundtable, entitled “A Practical Partnership for Human Security: ODIHR Assistance on Human Rights-Compliant Legal and Policy Frameworks”, held under the chairmanship of ODIHR Director Maria Telalian on 7 October 2026. In her intervention, Ms Tzavala had the opportunity to present the Greek experience of a long-standing and substantive cooperation with ODIHR in combating racist violence.

Since 2011, the Racist Violence Recording Network cooperates with ODIHR, contributing to the reliable recording and reporting of racist violence incidents and to ODIHR’s annual hate crime reporting.

In recent years, this cooperation has been further expanded, with the participation of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs, GNCHR and KMOP, within the framework of the EU co-funded ECOSYSTEM project. ODIHR’s support strengthened the capacity of national authorities and civil society to effectively implement legislation and policies addressing racism and racist violence, through training, cooperation among relevant stakeholders, support for the development of the 2nd National Action Plan, and the empowerment of organisations providing support to victims of hate crime.

This cooperation demonstrates, in practice, the strength of partnership among national authorities, independent national institutions, international organisations and civil society in translating international human rights commitments from theory into practice and ensuring the protection of human rights.
